Ryo Sasaki and the Jazz Park Rangers
Hailing from Tokyo, Japan, Ryo Sasaki began studying trumpet performance at the age of fifteen. He majored in Performance and graduated cum laude from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass., studying under the tutelage of Darren Barrett, Tiger Okoshi, and Charlie Lewis. Sasaki has been a professional jazz trumpet player since 2000. He has been featured at venues such as Blue Note, Smalls, St. Nick's Pub, The Cotton Club, Minton's Playhouse, Smoke, St. Peter's Church, Mezzrow, the Rainbow Room, and the Carlyle. In 2010, he performed at the international Ashodod Super Jazz Festival in Israel as the sole representative of Japan.
Sasaki is well known for his mellow and enticing tones on the trumpet and flugelhorn. He has collaborated with a wide variety of musicians, including Bill Crow, Greg Bundy, Ed Cherry, Dennis Davis, Charlie Pership, Amina Figarova, Fukushi Tainaka, Toru Dodo, Michael Kanan, Grant Stewart, The Cotton Club All-Stars, and the David White Jazz Orchestra.
